. . . My grandmother had it

. . . my mom has it

. . . Imelda Marcos has it

. . . I have it.

A shoe fetish, that's what I have in common with these and many other filipina women.

But, I have a heritage that goes over and beyond a silly shoe fetish . . . a rich and deep heritage that comes from the Philippines.

I have a unique background as a filipina as I was born and raised in the U.S. till I was 11 and then I also grew up for some time in the Philippines until just after I finished college there.

By the time I went to college in Manila, I had acquired a unique accent of an Ilonggo-U.S. American (sing-songy and yet twangy here and there). People used to ask me about the incongruous accent that I had--- not quite filipino and not quite state-side.

I am now in the U.S. again, but despite the distance I have from the Philippines, I am still proud of my Filipino heritage and glad of the influences the culture and values have had on me. I hope to pass these on to my US-based children.

(Note: I only have a few dozen pairs . . . not 3 thousand)

I am proud to share with those of you,
